Skip the Take-Out with Sesame Chicken
Skip the take-out and make this EASY Sesame Chicken with Blue Apron! The perfect weeknight comfort meal made with all fresh ingredients in under 30 minutes!
Well it’s officially a brand new year which means back to reality from all those sweets, treats and delicious holiday dinners we’ve been living off of for the past month and a half! I don’t know about you, but it’s always a tough transition getting back on track with healthy eating, meal planning and just our basic everyday routine now that most of us are back at work and the kids are back in school. Well that’s why I LOVE Blue Apron! This easy-to-use meal delivery service takes the stress and hassle out of running to the store on those busy weeknights after just getting off of work only to come home, prep all your food and cook, hoping to get dinner on the table before bedtime.
This is a serious reality for some families and Blue Apron makes cooking fun again rather than a “chore” that needs to be done because all the pre-portioned farm-fresh ingredients are waiting for you at your door step right when you get home!
If you’re running late from work and aren’t home in time when your package arrives that’s completely okay too! All the ingredients stay cold and super fresh in the perfectly packaged refrigerated box that is all ready to be opened and cooked! I just love how everything is portioned out (I mean even the chicken was pre-sliced) not only making prep time in the kitchen a breeze, but this completely eliminates food waste! As a food blogger, I’m constantly testing out new recipes all the time and I’m honestly ashamed at the amount of fresh produce that gets thrown away. When cooking with Blue Apron, I’m literally using every single ingredient and nothing goes to waste.
It’s also really great how everything from the box to the packaging is completely recyclable! Don’t have any recycling options available in your community? That’s okay too because Blue Apron will take care of that for you no charge! You can read more about Blue Apron’s recycling program here.
Each meal also comes with a detailed recipe card with step-by-step photo instructions that it make easy for literally anyone to get started cooking! Before Blue Apron my hubby’s kitchen experience was pretty much limited to grilled cheese sandwiches and pizza. Healthy, I know (insert eye roll here). Now he feels so proud when he cooks up a meal for us and even has fun styling the dish so they look just like the gorgeous colorful photos. The recipe cards have definitely taught him a lot of basic cooking techniques as well and has also made it so I’m not the only one always cooking!
Wooo a total win-win!
I do want to note that all of Blue Apron’s meals are between 500 to 800 calories per person so you really can feel good about what you’re eating and they can all be made in just 40 minutes or less! Everything is seasonal and all the fresh ingredients are sourced from quality suppliers and artisans so you KNOW that you’re eating quality food. Feel free to read their mission statement and see for yourself how Blue Apron is developing a more sustainable food system. Each week you can choose new meal options and Blue Apron is constantly adding new dishes to their menu, but don’t feel obligated because you can easily skip or cancel the service at any time!
One of the recipes we chose to make from this box was the Sesame Chicken with Bok Choy and WOW was it delicious! The sauces and seasonings all came pre-measured and individually packaged, the chicken, which is all organic and hormone-free, was conveniently pre-sliced so all I had to do was boil the rice and chop up the bok choy and green onions. Eeeeeasy!
The sauce for this chicken was really incredible and tasted just like our favorite take-out, but much healthier! I also loved how everything easily cooked right in one pan making clean up super quick and easy. The best part?? This entire meal only took me 30 minutes to make from start to finish and the portions were just perfect for two people! The recipe cards also feature suggested wine pairings so of course we enjoyed a little pinot gris with our dinner (and while cooking…) which ended up making this a really fun date night!
The other meals we received in our box along with our sesame chicken were steaks with green peppercorn sauce paired with kale and roasted potatoes as well as cod with freekeh and spinach. This is one of the great things about Blue Apron, you get such a variety of meals so you aren’t stuck with the same old thing each week AND it forces you to try something new. I had never had freekeh before, which is a nutty grain, similar to quinoa or rice, and it tasted amazing with the fish! I probably wouldn’t have ever tried this otherwise. It’s so great that we can enjoy a variety of chicken one night, steak the next and fish another! I will say that out of these three, the sesame chicken was a personal favorite
Are you ready to get started?!
Seriously if you are stuck in a rut not really knowing what to cook each week or simply just want to save some time preparing quality meals in your kitchen then I really encourage you to try Blue Apron! It can be such a lifesaver and the food really does taste great. You can also completely customize your menu based on your family size and dietary preference. As I said before, there is no commitment and you can skip or cancel this service at any time!
